What we have been up to – Autumn 1

The children have settled in well to the new routines of Key Stage 1. They have enjoyed exploring the classroom and new resources, during active learning, whilst getting to know 2 new classmates.

In English, we have changed learned new stories and explored 2 different poems. We thoroughly enjoyed learning and changing a poem called `What is pink?`by Christina Rossetti.

In Maths, we have been learning to count in 10s whilst exploring numbers to 10. We have learned a `Think 5` strategy to help us see a quicker way to add numbers.

In Phonics, we have been recapping old sounds and learning new special friends to help us with our spelling, reading and writing.

In our topic lessons we have tested materials to find which would make the best roof for the 3 Little Pig’s new house, thought about how to keep our classroom safe and happy and explored how different religions give thanks for the natural world. The children loved building Sukkahs out of natural materials. We have also studied Pablo Picasso's portraits and produced our own self-portraits. We explored human and physical features whilst on our autumnal walk around the school grounds, learned a new song and programmed Beebots to find treasure.

We are really looking forward to Arts week and learning all about our class country, Thailand.

What we have been up to – Autumn 1

The children have settled in well to the new routines of Key Stage 1. They have enjoyed exploring the classroom and new resources, during active learning, whilst getting to know 5 new classmates.

In English, we have changed the Big Bad Wolf in the story of the 3 Little Pigs and explored 2 different poems. We thoroughly enjoyed learning and performing Spike Milligan’s On the Ning Nang Nong nonsense poem.

In Maths, we have been learning to count in 10s whilst exploring numbers to 10. We have used positional language to describe where an object is and ordinal language to commentate on teddy bear races.

The children loved building Sukkahs and can tell you all about how they are made and what Jewish people use them for. We have also studied and produced self-portraits, explored human and physical features whilst on our autumnal walk around the school grounds, learnt a new song and programmed Beebots to find treasure.

We are really looking forward to Arts week and learning all about our class country Portugal.
