Year 4 - Dahl and Morpurgo

What we have been up to – Autumn 1

4 Dahl have had a really good start to the term as we have done all our topic learning through DRAGONS! We have sketched Dragons eyes and then made them out of clay, read poems about dragons and this last week of term we are making MOVING dragons with light up eyes.

We have done a lot of PE, going to different sporting events, running at least a mile every day and doing our five minute HIIT workouts with Joe Wicks on top of our weekly swimming lessons. We are really proud of how much progress we have made.

In Maths, we have learned lots of new strategies to solve calculations and worked really hard on learning our times tables. Even our teachers have to do the weekly times tables challenge!

We have also been learning French greetings, numbers and feelings, and we have playing games in French to help our learning. We made a puppet show in RE to tell the Diwali story of Rama and Sita, learned how to build circuits in Science and how to be safe and kind in PSHE. What a busy term!

What we have been up to – Autumn 1

4 Morpurgo have enjoyed settling into the new year and have relished the challenges Year 4 have brought so far. Here are a couple of our highlights from the Autumn term so far:

All About Me Week

We started off the half term with All About Me Week. We wrote short recounts about our favourite moments from our summer holidays. We also created artwork to show our favourite summer holiday moment too.

Swimming

Our most favourite moment of Year 4, so far, has to be starting swimming lessons! Every Friday afternoon, we have enjoyed our trips to the local swimming pool to improve our swimming skills. Some of us had never been swimming before but we are all now a lot more confident in the water. Some of us are already swimming in the deep diving pit!

Dragons

Our topic this half term has been all about dragons! Our dragon theme has been reflected in our poetry and setting descriptions in English, our Art lessons focusing on making ornate dragon eyes using clay and our DT learning, creating models of dragons with moving parts.

Awards

We have worked extremely hard to look after our classroom and keep it tidy. As a result, we have won the tidy classroom award on a couple of occasions and even Miss Battams has been awarded with the tidy desk award, twice! We also earnt the first weekly award for the most kilometres ran in a week. Aaron said ‘I can’t believe we have won the first award for running!’.

After the half term, we look forward to learning about the Vikings. Similarly to our dragon topic, our Viking topic will be reflected in our English, History and DT learning.
