What we have been up to – Autumn 1
In 6 Horowitz we have settled back into school really well! We have particularly enjoyed being the eldest in the school, alongside the privileges that this comes with: pupil reps, sports crew and sitting on the benches! Our favourite subjects have been English, Geography and Art. The class book for this half term, Spiderwick Field Guide, has inspired us to write our own create guide. We have really enjoyed exploring all the new creatures and learning about their hidden features. In Art we even got to draw pictures of them to go next to our published copies! Geography was really interesting because we did a lot of practical lessons. It was really fun when we built structures out of marshmallows and jelly, then got to cause an earthquake to see it they stayed standing! Another exciting lesson that we enjoyed was making a beautiful settlement - which we destroyed with a 'tsunami'! In Art, as well as drawing our creatures, our topic this term was illusions. Over the weeks, we have learnt how to create perspective in our drawings to make them realistic.
We can't wait to see what Autumn 2 holds!
What we have been up to – Autumn 1
This half term we have thoroughly enjoyed all the learning that has linked to our topic of ‘Extreme Earth’. Within this topic, we have had the opportunity to carry out many hands-on learning experiences – particularly in Geography. We had great fun designing buildings that could withstand an earthquake and, to use jelly and marshmallows in this lesson, made it quite exciting. We also developed our collaborative working skills when we designed a settlement that would eventually get destroyed in a tsunami. Some of us have created impressive volcanoes within our home learning and we enjoyed watching these erupt in the playground!
Our class text of ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ has engaged us and led to us creating our own mystical characters. We all loved the malevolent Cockatrice and allowed the text to make our imaginations run wild. We have created our own class book where we introduce and display our own characters.
