Year One - McNaughton and Dodd

Summer Term

As we come to the end of our final term in Year 1 we would like to celebrate how far the children have come during their time in Year 1 and how much we have loved watching them learn and grow.

In English we have hunted for missing toys and written recounts. We learnt the poem On the Ning Nang Nong and we performed it as a class before moving on to writing traditional tales. We have enjoyed changing both Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and The Beanstalk. In Maths we have continued to explore teen numbers in-depth whilst securing our knowledge of counting in 2s,5s, and 10s.  In Science we have explored animal groups and plants. During our RE lessons, we have explored different sacred texts and faith stories before contemplating 'big questions' about the world. We have enjoyed inviting Jigsaw Jack and Jerrie Cat into our classrooms during our PSHE lessons whilst we explore our topics; relationships and changing me. In our DT lessons we designed and built moving minibeast mechanisms and in Music we have learnt a new song. We have explored changes in transport during History lessons and the UK and our country during Geography. In Computing we used iPads to create e-books, beebots to hunt treasure and we are looking forward to using the laptops to collect images of animals from the web before the end of term. In PE we have been practising our team games and ball skills.

Our Wow moments of the half term are from the different sports activities and competitions we have been fortunate enough to take part in. We wish the children all the best for the next adventures in Year 2.

What we have been learning about in Autumn Two

As we come to the end of our first term in Year 1 we would like to celebrate how far the children have come and how much we have loved watching them learn and grow.

In English we joined the whole school in exploring the book Journey, thinking about the adventures we could go on with our own magic crayons. In Maths we have become Part-part whole experts and in Science we have learnt about the 5 senses and the different parts of the body. We have explored how different religions represent light through Hanukah, Diwali and Christmas in our RE lessons. During PSHE lessons we have thought about what makes a good friend and how situations may impact us. In our DT lessons we designed and built toy car garages and in Music we have learnt new a song. We linked our History learning with our English lessons and finished the topic by writing a diary entry for Guy Fawkes. In our Geography lessons we explored our local area using google maps to find our school. In Computing we used iPads to create digital greetings cards and in PE we have been practising our Athletics and Fitness skills.

Our Wow moments of the half term were the Mini Olympics morning and the Santa Dash. What adventures will Spring 1 bring?

What we have been learning in Autumn One

We cannot believe that it is already the end of our first half term in Year 1. We have loved being back in school, welcoming new classmates and learning with our new teachers.

In English we enjoyed exploring the book Tuesday after an invasion of puddles and lily pads in the classrooms. In Maths we have been counting to 20 and using our shape and positional language/vocabulary to describe what we see.  We have investigated materials in our Science lessons and learnt how Sikhs, Christians and Jewish people celebrate Harvest during RE lessons. During PSHE lessons we have thought about how we keep ourselves safe and healthy and practised our drawing skills to create portraits and self portraits during our Art lessons. In Music we have split the classes into halves to learn a new song as well as learning Makaton to sign along with our favourite songs.

Our Wow moment of the half term was the delivery of new resources for our outdoor learning environment. Some of us helped Miss Pike build the frames but most importantly we all went on adventures in the boxes the deliveries came in.  We cannot wait to see what adventures Autumn 2 brings.
