Termly Update
Autumn 2
What a busy half term we have had! We started the half term by learning all about bonfire night. We used a poem by Kate Williams to help us write our own version together as a class. We made some beautiful firework pictures of our own.
Then we celebrated Nursery rhyme week, where we learnt a new nursery rhyme each day. We used these nursery rhymes in our learning and built new walls for Humpty Dumpty to sit on; decorated bird shapes to help us sing ‘Two Little Dicky Birds’ and went on a scavenger hunt around the classroom looking for the nursery rhyme clues.
We read the stories ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’ and ‘Where’s my Teddy?’ to inspire our learning about bears. Everyone, including the adults, was asked who their favourite bear is and we made a chart in our classroom to show everyone. This led to our brilliant Teddy Bear’s picnic reward that happened in the last week of term.
Also, we cannot forget about all the hard work that went into putting on our Nativity. The children worked so hard to learn their lines and to practice going on and off the stage and I hope you would all agree with me in saying that they did an absolutely brilliant job.
Autumn 1
We have been very busy this half term, settling into our new environment and learning the routines. We started the half term by learning about our homes and the people we live with. We learnt about the differences between houses, flats and bungalows. We talked about the objects we would find around our homes like baths and ovens and used our knowledge to develop our play in the home corner.
We then started learning about the importance of Harvest festival and celebrating where our food comes from. We read Little Red Hen and Farmer Duck to help us find out about the work that goes into growing our food. We retold the stories and explored what the insides of different vegetables looked like.
After reading ‘It was a cold dark night’ we learnt about animals that hibernate and we were excited to learn that Queen Bumblebees dig holes in the grass to sleep over the winter.
We finished the half term learning about Diwali and read the story of Rama and Sita. We created different diva lamps from paper and clay and used puppets to help remember some of the key parts of the story.
