Year Three - Beech and Cedar
Spring 2
This half term, Year 3 have been looking at a wide range of books, including the whole school book of Hermelin. We have had some interesting discussions and produced lots of work in English based on the children’s own relationship with writing as well as the different purposes of writing.
In Maths we have focussed on multiplication and division and the children have all learnt various ways to multiply one and two digit numbers together. We have also looked at how to apply this knowledge to word problems and finding fractions of an amount.
We have also had the privilege of having the University of Herts in to visit us and help us to learn about the different career paths in science. The children have been able to become aerospace engineers and make rockets out of paper, straws and balloons, as well as looking at how a thermal imaging camera can help a sports technologist. They were also able to become geologists and discover and classify different rocks.
This term has been so busy for Year 3!
We have become archaeologists in History when we were learning about the Stone Age, scientists when learning about magnets and forces – including looking at the uses of magnets in recycling and illustrators in Design and Technology when we created our own pop-up books.
We have worked hard on our mathematic skills, applying them and in particular learning our Times Tables and formal written methods of addition and subtraction.
In English, we have been doing a lot of writing and we were even able to become reporters and wrote reports based on some rather interesting jobs that the children would like to do as they grow older.
