Termly Update

Autumn 1

What a busy half term we have had! This term in English, Year 2 have been busy developing their writing skills. We have written imaginative stories using conjunctions to add detail and excitement, created clear instructions on how to be a good friend using question and command sentences, and explored creative ways to write different styles of list poems.

In Maths, we have focused on place value, understanding tens and ones in two-digit numbers. We have also used Base 10 equipment and pictorial representations to solve addition and subtraction problems involving two-digit and one-digit numbers.

Our Science lessons have been full of hands-on investigations! We explored a range of everyday materials, discovering how their properties make them suitable for different purposes.   We’ve recorded our findings using tables and bar charts.

In Art, we have studied famous artists including Cézanne, Morandi, and Frank Bowling, looking closely at their brushstrokes, colour mixing, and composition. Using our observational sketching skills, we created our own masterpieces inspired by what we learned.

During Geography, we compared the similarities and differences between the countryside, towns, and cities, focusing on our local area of Hemel Hempstead and the Lake District.

In PE, we have been practising our dodging skills and expressing ourselves through dance, bringing our imaginative interpretation of explorers and their emotions.

We also enjoyed using our musical skills in our Harvest Festival performance to parents and carers.
