LUNCHES
PLEASE NOTE WE ARE A NUT FREE SCHOOL. NO FOODS CONTAINING NUTS SHOULD BE BROUGHT INTO SCHOOL AT ANY TIME. THANK YOU.
School Meals (supplied by Hertfordshire Catering Ltd.)
The school operates a whole food cafeteria service where the children are allowed to make choices between hot meals and salads or a packed lunch (roll option) each day.
Choices are made on a daily basis using a band system - Red for the meat or fish option, Green for vegetarian, Blue for the roll option (which could be cheese, ham, chicken, tuna etc) and Purple for the Jacket Potato option. Talking to your children about their choices will support them when making decisions.
Payment
Dinner money should be paid in advance via Arbor. Credits due to absence will be totalled at the end of term and deducted from the following terms’ payment.
School meals must be paid for in advance.
Allergies
HCL offer specially adapted menus for selected food allergies, intolerances or cultural choices. If your child needs a specifically adapted menu please click here. HCL have also produced a step-by-step guide if you would like one please come to the school office.
Packed Lunches
If you prefer your child to bring a packed lunch please ensure that it is nutritionally balanced and does not contain sweets or glass containers. We also request that children do not drink directly from bottles so a plastic cup or straw should also be included. Please see our lunchbox leaflet below, which includes links to recipe ideas and support for 'fussy eaters'.
We have some children with severe nut allergies so in order to make our school environment as safe as possible for them we ask you to help by making sure that your child does not bring peanut butter sandwiches or nuts into school in their lunch boxes.
School Milk
Children in the Reception class, Key Stage 1 (Year's 1 and 2) and Key Stage 2 (Year's 3, 4, 5 and 6) are eligible for semi-skimmed milk at a subsidised price paid termly. All children who are entitled to receive Free School Meals are also entitled to receive Free School Milk. Children in the Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) are also eligible for free milk if they are aged 4 for the whole term. Parents will be notified of the cost and ordering procedure by letter. Milk must be ordered in advance.
Water
We encourage the children to drink water throughout the day and it is the only drink allowed throughout the school, please ensure your child has a refillable water bottle in school.
Playtime Snacks
Due to the Government’s School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme each KS1 and Foundation Stage child is provided with a free piece of fruit or vegetable each school day, available at playtime.
KS2 children are also encouraged to bring a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable to eat at playtime. As we are a healthy school we do not permit unhealthy snacks such as crisps or chocolate bars. The opportunity of a playtime snack is voluntary and there is no obligation for your child to take part.
