Year One - Willow and Chestnut
Spring 1
We have enjoyed some fun and interesting topics this term. We have been trying our best to publish work, such as recounts of the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’. We have also celebrated Safer internet day where we talked about how to stay safe online. We created collage flags on our school French day and the children really enjoyed this! We looked at the story ‘The invisible string’ as part of children’s mental health week, and even created our own invisible string pictures thinking about the people who care about us. Thank you adults at home for bringing in lots of recycling as we had so much fun junk modelling famous landmarks in art! The children especially had fun in PE learning dance skills and techniques. It has been a wonderful half term. Well done to all of the children.
Autumn 2
This half term we have enjoyed learning about Guy Fawkes and the gun powder plot. We even had class debates about whether he really was bad or not. We have read lots of books and particularly enjoyed learning about Mr Big. In maths we have explored different methods of addition and subtraction and can use lots of different resources to show our working out. In DT we have learnt how to cut and prepare a variety of fruits to make our own fruit kebabs and used our computing skills to record ourselves like TV chefs. In RE we have learned all about different festivals of light including Diwali, Hannukah and Christmas.
Near the end of the term, we turned our attention to our Christmas play all about aliens coming to visit us to learn what Christmas was all about. We learned lots of songs and enjoyed showing off our acting skills to all the parents.
