Year Six - Hawthorn
This half term year 6 have been learning about World War II, we have particularly enjoyed leaving about evacuation and building our own shelters. We have also been reading the story ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’, which focuses on children evacuated during the war. We have then created discussion texts asking whether children should have been evacuated during the war.
Year 6 have also been learning about different planets during our English lesson, before creating non-chronological reports on the fictional planet Pandora.
This term, year 6 have been learning how to build bird houses using a saw, sanding paper and nails, once complete these will be placed around our school for the local birds.
Year 6 have sat their first set of practise SATs papers this year and should be very proud of the effort they all demonstrated throughout the week.
Autumn 1st Half
This half term year 6 have been reading the story ‘Floodlands’. We have made prediction based on prior reading and thought about the main characters and how we would feel if we were them. We have then created a diary entry from the point of view of Zoe.
Year 6 have taken part in different sporting activities outside of school, recently we have attended our first tag rugby event and this week attended our first cross country event. The children all worked really hard and showed a fantastic attitude cheering others on.
Throughout the term, we have been looking at different styles of cityscapes before selecting our own method to create our final piece.
